A former toilet block transformed into a bistro in an Oldham park has become a popular foodie spot for its unique take on the Sunday roast. Grandpa Greene's Bistro serves the roast dinner inside a giant Yorkshire pudding, making it a viral sensation on social media.
You can go far and wide in the hunt for a great Sunday roast, but I found one in the quirkiest of places. A former toilet block, now transformed into a bistro, in an Oldham park was my destination for a traditional roast dinner treat.
Keen to see what all the fuss is about, I headed along to Uppermill to give the roast a try, which is £19.95 per person. You can choose between roast chicken leg, slow-cooked beef or vegan sausages. I chose to have beef with my roast, and the meat was so soft that it easily fell apart when my knife cut into it. This induced a sigh out of me and my friends who were around our table. We could tell the meat was of good quality when it broke apart so easily.
You also have the option of including pigs and blankets as an extra, which of course I added, for £2.50. That meant the meal ended up costing £22.45 which is certainly at the more expensive end of roast dinner prices, but to me it was good value considering the quality of food you receive. However, if you are not partial to a roast they also offer a wonderful array of small plates, brunch dishes and sandwiches. My particular favourite was the Christmas special Sausage and Garlic Mayo Egg sandwich, which was delicious.
