The family business dates back to the late 1800s
A "quirky" fishmonger shop now run by the fourth generation of the same family has been loved in Liverpool for well over a century.
"He was a fishmonger there and I believe he brought his two sons Robert and James over to Liverpool and it was them who started the business. By then, we had the railway system in England which meant they could get access fish from the likes of Scotland. "When I started she was 58 and I was 19 and she was still with me 32 years later. She was a lady who loved me like a son she never had, she was actually born upstairs in this present shop in 1908."
As time has gone on, Stewart, like many other local independents, have seen the high street transform and the impact of supermarkets. He said: "Post Second World War, there were hundreds of fish shops in Liverpool. But with such longevity, L Hannah Fishmongers has also had generations of customers pass through their doors, with some new customers emerging during the pandemic. Stewart said business remains very traditional in some aspects, from letting customers know he's shutting shop and going on holiday to being recommended by word of mouth.
