Civil War is getting positive reviews.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Stephen King offers his review of the film Civil War. Written and directed by Alex Garland, Civil War is a political siege about a near-future, divided America wherein military-embedded journalists race to Washington DC to save the capitol from being overtaken by rebel groups.
King went on to compare Civil War to the film The Red Badge of Courage. The Red Badge of Courage was originally an 1895 novel by Stephen Crane that tells the story of a young private fleeing from the American Civil War. The novel was adapted into a 1951 movie of the same name as well as a 1974 TV movie. Like Garland’s Civil War, The Red Badge of Courage covers themes of political division and what happens when someone struggles against the ideologies of their nation.
At the time of writing, Civil War’s reviews have assuaged most of the fears surrounding the film. The Garland movie currently holds a near universally positive 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. This restores Garland to his Rotten Tomatoes stardom of yesteryear, which took a dip with Men, as Civil War’s score is a lot closer to that of his well-liked previous films such as Ex Machina and Annihilation. Critics are calling Civil War provocative, thrilling, and one of the great films of 2024 so far.
