Show a Gen Z person a picture of an old manual typewriter and some might struggle to identify it and may even give you a blank look. At least two generations have grown up without ever having used or seen a typewriter; yet the contemporary computer keyboard owes much of its functionality to the machines that were, until relatively recently, an everyday part of office life.
There’s still lots of love for the manual typewriter and it’s a market that Qwerkytoys Inc. has tapped into . However, the QwerkyWriter keyboard is no toy; it’s a thoroughly modern computer keyboard that works with Macs, PCs and tablets via a USB port or wirelessly via Bluetooth. The keyboard has all the trappings of a classic vintage typewriter, including a return bar and a paper feed that functions as a holder for a tablet or smartphone.
On the left side of the Qwerkywriter, there is a carriage return that activates the keyboard’s Enter key to create a new paragraph. There’s still an Enter key on the keyboard but it’s a nice and fun thing to have and I imagine older users who grew up learning to type on manual typewriters will love the analog vibe.The other neat features include two scroll wheels at either end of what would be the platen roller on an old typewriter. The left knob turns and works like the scroll wheel on a mouse.
