A US prosecutor has dropped charges against convicted singer R. Kelly, admitting that 'while this may not be the result they were expecting, due to the sentences that Mr. Kelly is facing, we do feel that justice has been served'.
Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx announced on Monday she would withdraw aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse charges her office filed against the singer in 2019.
“My office will direct our resources to find justice for other victims of sexual abuse who do not have the power of a documentary to bring their abusers to light.” The 56-year-old was found guilty in New York Court for nine counts of racketeering predicated on criminal conduct, including sexual exploitation of children, forced labor, and sex trafficking involving the coercion and transportation of women and girls in interstate commerce to engage in illegal sexual activity in June last year.He was also convicted in the Illinois Federal Court for three counts of child pornography and three counts of child enticement in September last year.
In an unprecedented public call, the office asked for witnesses and established a hotline which received several tips.
