The winger kept the Light Blues' title charge on course with a wonder goal in added-time to claim a 3-3 draw with Celtic in Govan.

The winger kept Rangers’ title charge on course with an added-time wonder goal. And Matondo revealed he told boss Philippe Clement he’d produce a carbon copy of the Manchester City superstar’s pearler against Crystal Palace 24 hours earlier, before the thrilling 3-3 draw.

“So, I said to him ‘yeah, I did’, but it wasn’t quite low in the corner the way he wants me to do it. But he said that when you get to that level like De Bruyne, that’s basically his low corner, the top corner. “Did I know it was in as soon as I hit it? I can’t really remember right now, it’s all a blur. I just thought to take my man on and get a shot off, thankfully it’s flown into the top corner.”

“He had chances to shoot and show his qualities and missed too many opportunities like that. It is really difficult to defend with his speed and agility, but there needs to be an end product and that’s crucial.” Matondo reckons it’s a sign of the side’s backbone under Clement which had been badly lacking in the early stages of the season. The manager had questioned his players at the break – insisting he hadn’t recognised his team in 45 minutes when Celtic bullied and bossed them.
