Jordan McGhie posed for a picture kneeling on his friend's neck, imitating the killing of George Floyd in the United States. The image sparked a public outcry and led to McGhie facing court charges.
A Scottish roofer, Jordan McGhie, who sparked outrage by imitating George Floyd 's murder in a vile photograph, has been given a three-month curfew. McGhie, 30, posed on Snapchat kneeling on his friend's neck, mimicking the killing of Floyd in the United States in 2020. His sick post resulted in a public backlash, leading to the imposition of the curfew at Dundee Sheriff Court. However, McGhie has now admitted to failing to complete the 200 hours of unpaid work originally ordered by the court.
Sheriff Harry Small addressed McGhie, stating, 'You have failed twice to carry out the community payback order and unpaid work. Some punishment has to be imposed for this offence. 'I cannot impose custody if there is another alternative. There is an alternative, by way of a tag, so we will try that. This is the last chance saloon.' McGhie's lawyer subsequently claimed he would 'do anything to avoid custody.'Previously, Sheriff Gregor Murray had written off the hours of work completed by McGhie and imposed a new order for 200 more hours of unpaid work at Dundee Sheriff Court. McGhie's original offense involved taking a picture of himself kneeling on his friend's neck at a pal's home in Crossgate, Cupar. The image, shared on social media, depicted him triumphantly raising his hands in the air. Several people reported the photo to the police after it appeared on a Facebook news feed. McGhie pleaded guilty to acting in a racially aggravated manner by sending an offensive and racist image on June 2, 2020. He also admitted to breaching the 2003 Communications Act by posting an image on social media that was 'grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or of menacing character.' Following the court case, McGhie was forced to flee his home due to the intense public reaction. His solicitor, Catriona Clark, defended him, stating, 'This was an act of drunken gross stupidity on his part. The sequence of events was that he had not even seen the video when he posted the image of him doing this with his friend. 'As a result of the reaction it provoked he then looked at the original video and immediately realised the seriousness of it and removed the post. It was removed within six minutes.' McGhie's previous convictions include assault to injury and a racist offense in 2011. At 17, he subjected a 13-year-old boy to a drunken tirade of abuse on a bus traveling between St Andrews and Cupar
