The Raiders responded in a big way to the firing of their coach and GM, pounding the short-handed Giants under interim coach Antonio Pierce.
LAS VEGAS — Cigar smoke permeated the air outside the Las Vegas Raiders’ locker room. With rap music blaring, most of the players took long puffs of the stogies as they soaked in what had become a full-on celebration. It was perhaps a lot for a midseason victory celebration, but it was fitting considering the week they’d had. Advertisement Beyond that, it set the tone for how they plan to go forward.
They also installed a mini-basketball hoop in the locker room and held playful, impromptu wrestling matches with one another. They displayed a level of joy, excitement and enthusiasm that hadn’t been seen in weeks. The Raiders were having fun again. “It’s no knock on anyone, but just the energy in the building was completely different,” right tackle said. “We just had a swagger.” Whether that would translate to positive on-field results was to be determined.
