Network Rail says that it hopes to re-open the line connecting Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton 'before Easter'.
Rail infrastructure owners have issued an update on the continuing work to rebuild a huge part of the embankment at Oakengates that was washed away during heavy rains.
More than 5,000 tonnes of material slipped beneath a 50-metre section of the railway after persistent heavy rainfall over the winter months had weakened the earthwork beneath it.Work to restabilise the railway embankment - which is approximately 15 metres in height - involves digging out material that’s slipped to create a new profile for the slope.

Emergency Repairs Underway After Landslip Closes RailwayNetwork Rail workers are on site near Oakengates undertaking emergency repairs in poor weather after a landslip closed the railway. Trains between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury have been suspended and are being covered by rail replacement buses following a landslip near Oakengates in Telford on Friday. Network Rail has been on site this week carrying out emergency repairs after around 5,000 tonnes of land slipped along a 50-metre section of the railway. Landslips quite regularly occur when the ground becomes saturated with water after long periods of heavy rain.
