"I left the house an hour earlier than I would usually but I could definitely see the added stress," Emmanuella added. Extra staff have been out on the roads with live cameras being monitored at the National Traffic Operations Centre. "Roads in cities and town centres have been busier than usual during the morning rush hour so obviously it'll be busy again this afternoon as people head home."

Apparently addressing commuters inconvenienced by the strikes, he said:"And I say this to the country as a whole, and we need to get ready to stay the course, because these reforms, these improvements in the way we run on railways are in the interests of the travelling public.
