A city centre railway station was forced to close after a passenger slipped on an icy platform. Northern told customers that Deansgate station was 'closed until further notice' due to this morning's icy conditions.
The closure comes after a passenger was rushed to hospital after slipping on black ice at the station earlier today . Railway lines were initially blocked following the incident, affecting commuters heading to Manchester from Liverpool and Preston. Services have since resumed, but trains are not stopping at Deansgate until the issue is resolved. Northern hopes to reopen the station 'shortly'.A spokesperson for Northern said: "Deansgate station has been temporarily closed this morning due to black ice on the platforms. One customer was taken to hospital earlier this morning due to slipping on the ice.
"Station staff are currently re-gritting the length of the platform and we hope to re-open shortly." The passenger's condition is not currently known. North West Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.
