While I am sure this is true for some, I think there is a bigger issue at play. Having children in this country is utterly miserableYou could not pay me to have another child here. When I still had my child in a pram, more often than not people wouldn’t even open the door for me.
Kemi Badenoch recently said that maternity pay had “gone too far”. Before that, ministers have referred to mothers as “economically inactive”. The implication being, that as long as you’re not working outside the home you are a burden, and the 12-hour shifts you’re pulling seven days a week at home don’t matter. You are simply a drain on resources.
Or once, I had a visitor planned. When they didn’t show up, I texted asking when they would arrive. They said: “Oh I didn’t think it mattered because you’re home all day anyway.” My time was perceived as less valuable as someone who was working in exchange for money.
