Rangers secured their place in the Europa League knockout stages, guaranteeing a minimum £15 million in prize money. The Scottish giants topped their group with four wins and two draws.
Rangers have secured their place in the last 16 of the Europa League , guaranteeing a minimum £15 million in prize money. The Scottish giants emerged victorious in a 2-1 thriller against Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday, January 30th, with goals from Nicolas Raskin and Vaclav Cerny. Although Kevin Mac Allister's late header injected some tension into the final minutes at Ibrox, Rangers held on for the win.
This achievement marks their qualification for the knockout round play-offs in mid-February. They join a prestigious group of eight teams who secured automatic qualification for the last 16, including Lazio, Athletic Bilbao, Manchester United, Tottenham, Eintracht Frankfurt, Lyon, and Olympiacos. Each of these teams will receive a guaranteed £3.6 million for their participation in the Europa League this season. In addition to the base prize money, clubs are rewarded with further financial incentives based on their performance throughout the competition. Rangers have already amassed nearly £1.8 million from their eight group stage matches, earning £377,000 for each victory and £126,000 for a draw. Their qualification for the last 16 has also brought in £1.5 million, while finishing in the top eight has secured them an additional £500,000. Furthermore, Rangers' eighth-place finish has earned them an extra £1.8 million based on their individual ranking after the group stage. Considering all these earnings, the Scottish club has pocketed approximately £15.2 million from the Europa League so far. The club's expected earnings from the Champions League this season further contribute to their overall financial gains. Adding to their financial windfall, Rangers could potentially make a significant profit on star forward Hamza Igamane, who joined the club last summer for £2.5 million from AS FAR. His recent impressive performances have attracted attention, making him a valuable asset.
