The first warm-up match against the Netherlands ended in a bruising 4-0 defeat on Friday and callers are worried with the winless streak hitting six games. Fraser Wilson mans the phones.
Scotland's Amsterdam annihilation on Friday night had the Tartan Army fearing our Euro 2024 masterplan is written in double Dutch. Chances spurned and goals gifted is a lethal combination and with another warm-up on Tuesday night against Northern Ireland back at Hampden the nation is badly in need of a pick-me-up.
Willie Mercer, Dumfries, said: “The result against the Dutch confirmed what we already know about this Scotland squad. While we have an abundance of good midfield players, we have no lethal or cutting edge as an attacking force and are fragile and vulnerable at the back. The lack of quality in depth in the squad is cruelly exposed.” Tam Bain, Desborough, reckons Steve Clarke should look down the ranks for a striker solution.
Meanwhile, William Simpson emailed: “Does the team ever practice putting the ball in the net? Against the Dutch they should have had four or five and that is putting it mildly. I thought they were brilliant up to the time the Dutch got the second goal.”"All the match did was prove that they won’t get a point at the Euros and Lawrence Shankland is not good enough to play for Rangers.”
Step forward George Wilson who had a message for Kenny Wilson, confusing this, saying: “In response to Kenny Wilson, Rangers don’t need to be able to beat Celtic to win the league. Two draws against Celtic would secure the league as apart from the occasional blip Rangers have shown they are more capable of beating all the others.”
