The ambitious Championship outfit have turned down an SFA offer to ground share with Rangers in the event of any overlap.
Queen's Park are prepared to rip up the terms of their big return to Hampden to allow Rangers’ takeover of the national stadium to continue for ‘as long as necessary’.
As Record Sport revealed last week, however, there are concerns Philippe Clement and his side could be locked out of Ibrox until October at the earliest due to an ongoing delay of a reconstruction project in the Copland Road stand. And Queen’s Park could have thrown a major spanner in the works by demanding their own return to Hampden remained on schedule - with a home game against Morton due to be housed there on September 14.
And, in the meantime, they are drawing up their own contingency plans which could see them continue playing games at Lesser Hampden until the start of next year if required. It’s understood Rangers chairman John Bennett has held a series of cordial discussions with both Haughey and Queen’s president Graeme Shields during which both clubs agreed that sharing the same pitch over an extended period of time would be likely to cause too much wear and tear to the playing surface.
