Rangers' pursuit of NK Osijek's Marko Soldo is complicated by Dinamo Zagreb's buy-back clause, while Middlesbrough are preparing a bid for Plymouth's Morgan Whittaker.
Rangers ' hopes of signing NK Osijek's Marko Soldo have reportedly been dealt a blow, as rivals Dinamo Zagreb are poised to activate a buy-back clause on the Croatian U21 international. Soldo only joined Osijek last summer after leaving the Champions League club Zagreb, but the latter reportedly included a clause that becomes active at the end of the season.
With Zagreb set to receive a significant sum from the impending sale of midfielder Petar Sucic to Inter Milan, they are well-positioned to exercise the buy-back option and bring Soldo back to the Maksimir Stadium. Meanwhile, Middlesbrough are reportedly preparing a £10 million bid for Plymouth star Morgan Whittaker. Rangers had previously expressed interest in the former England youth international, who scored 20 goals in 50 games last season. Plymouth's new manager, Miron Muslic, has acknowledged the possibility of selling Whittaker this month, stating that the club's best interests should be considered alongside the player's aspirations. At Rangers, manager Philippe Clement has made one signing this January window, acquiring centre-back Rafael Fernandes on loan from Lille. However, Clement recognizes the need to move players out before making further additions. Cyriel Dessers could be sold, while Rabbi Matondo and Kieran Dowell have been informed they are not in the first-team plans. One player on the verge of leaving the club is youth academy graduate Alex Lowry. The midfielder is close to joining Wycombe Wanderers, who are currently second in EFL League One and aiming for promotion to England's second tier. Lowry, who made his Rangers debut under Gio van Bronckhorst in 2022, has seen his playing time diminish since then, and a loan spell at Hearts last season did not yield the desired results
