Viaplay Cup finalists Aberdeen have hit out after being denied a 50-50 split of tickets by the SPFL for their mouthwatering Final against Rangers.
The rivals will meet in at Hampden on December 17 and Philippe Clement's side will get 25,000 tickets with the Dons fans having 19,500 tickets. Aberdeen pitched to decision makers for more, however, the tickets they will receive is the same as the 2018/19 Final in which they lost 1-0 to Celtic. Record Sport revealed the Dons craved more and have been left miffed by not receiving half of the tickets.
An SPFL spokesperson added: “Firstly, we would like to congratulate both Rangers and Aberdeen for reaching the Final of the Viaplay Cup after two fantastic Semi-Finals. Deciding ticketing allocations for cup finals is always a challenging task, as more fans invariably want to attend than the stadium can accommodate.
We take a range of factors into consideration, including the number of tickets each club sells in the Semi-Finals, as well as their historic ticket sales in any previous League Cup Finals and Semi-Finals. In addition, the design of the stadium and its ability to split sections is a major factor which influences our decisions, together with input from safety and security authorities to ensure fan safety and appropriate segregation.
The wish for parity from Aberdeen came after Hearts let rip over receiving fewer tickets than Rangers for the semi final. The Jambos said: “The club would like assure fans that we requested and pushed for an even 50-50 split of tickets, but due to previous sales history and the inability to segregate Hampden’s North Stand into subsections, this request was denied.
