Former Rangers star Barry Ferguson weighs in on the recent fan walkout during the St Johnstone match, stating his opinion on the situation while acknowledging the fans' concerns about the team's away form. He discusses the various reactions from fans and emphasizes the need for Rangers to improve their consistency.
Barry Ferguson acknowledged that the Rangers walkout orchestrated by the Union Bears was not an ideal image, but he declined to criticize any individual involved. The Ibrox legend shared his perspective on the unfolding situation as Philippe Clement 's team defeated St Johnstone 3-1, securing a much-needed victory for the beleaguered Belgian manager.
The ultras group, in conjunction with the Rangers Supporters Association, urged fans to depart in the 55th minute to convey their message to the Ibrox hierarchy. Throughout the game, they displayed numerous pointed banners, and as they exited their designated area, those who remained expressed their displeasure with boos. The group has since reaffirmed their commitment to the protests, stating in a concise online message: 'Thank you to every Rangers fan who participated in the protest actions today. We will continue until there is real change for our club.' Earlier today, Ally McCoist had also voiced his opinion on the matter, and now, in a live interview on Go Radio, Record Sport's Ferguson has shared his own thoughts. He stated: 'The way I looked at it is, if they want to walk out, they can walk out. If they want to stay and demonstrate their concerns to the managerial team or the board, that's fine as well. Some people didn't even attend the game. It's their prerogative. They have the freedom to do as they please. 'Is it a good look? No, it's not. But I'm not going to criticize. People pay their money and are understandably worried about the team's performance away from home. That's the core issue, the lack of consistency in Rangers' displays, and that needs to be rectified moving forward.' Commenting on the walkout following Rangers' triumph over St Johnstone, manager Clement explained: 'I understand that the fans are unhappy with our away record. I'm also not entirely happy with it. Clearly, there were two distinct ways of supporting the team. A lot of fans remained steadfast in their support, while some fans chose to express their disappointment. So, it's crucial to deliver what the fans want to see, and then everything will hopefully return to normal.
