Ranvir grew up in Preston and studied English Literature at Lancaster University

Ranvir Singh recalled fond memories of visiting the Harris Library in Preston during an interview with Christopher Eccleston on ITVs 'Lorraine'.

Ranvir, who grew up in Preston, said: "I remember going to the Harris Libary in Preston with my mum. It's one of my earliest memories, sitting on those little chairs and it being so colourful and so much much there." The broadcaster went on to study English Literature at Lancaster University. Explaining The Summer Reading Challenge, Eccleston said: "Over summer there's always a dip and when you go back to school your confidence might not be as good. We want people to go to public libraries, which we all treasure in this country and are seriously underfunded. There's a list of books you can see online - its free and you can go there all summer.

He said: "The first time I went to a library with my mum and dad it made me really proud because they were working class people, their education stopped when they were 14 and 15, but they had this passion for libraries. To go with them they were saying to me, by the very building, learning is important. It felt posh. It's a privilege.
