Retired Manchester United defender Raphael Varane made a surprise visit to his former club, RC Lens, during their French Cup match against Paris Saint Germain.
Former Manchester United defender Raphael Varane is enjoying his retirement by visiting his former club RC Lens. The Frenchman retired from football in September, shortly after joining Serie A side Como on a free transfer. He remains with the Italian club as a board member. Varane began his career with RC Lens, progressing through the youth ranks before moving to Real Madrid in 2011.
He joined United in 2021 and made 95 appearances for the club before leaving at the end of his contract this summer. With more free time, Varane has made the most of it. He was spotted disguised in a club hat and scarf among the home fans during Lens's French Cup match against Paris Saint Germain on Sunday. The game went to penalties, with PSG winning 4-3. Varane shared a picture on Instagram of himself in a Lens hat and scarf, captioning it: 'Back to the source…Don’t try to explain to them, they can’t understand. Love football, the emotions. This is what it is all about.' Former United teammates Bruno Fernandes, Andre Onana, and Diogo Dalot liked the post. RC Lens also shared pictures of Varane on their Instagram account
