Cottam Parkway back on track after wrangle over landA rare pilgrim badge has been found near Walton-le-Dale, believed to date back to the early 16th century.Historians believe it may very well have been purchased by a person of high status, possibly during a pilgrimage to the shrine of Saint Ursula in Cologne, Germany.Cultural historian Dr Sam Riches also gave a talk on August 29th about the story behind the badge.
County Councillor Peter Buckley, cabinet member for Community and Cultural Services, said: “We are very proud to be able to display this beautifully cast, silver badge, along with many other wonderful artefacts and historic items, as part of our ’50 Objects’ celebrations to mark 50 years of the county council in its modern form.”
Councillor Buckley continued: “Our team in Cultural Services have devoted much skill in putting together such an eclectic range of objects to really display the rich, prestigious and diverse heritage of the wider Lancashire community.” He added: “Many thanks to the knowledgeable and hard-working staff in the Museum Service who have put this programme together.”Sign up below to receive Blog Preston's email newsletter.
