His departure comes as a surprise after only recently signing a contract extension.
Ray Hadley, a titan of Sydney’s talkback radio for more than 40 years, has announced his resignation from 2GB.
“Back in September, I turned 70 and started to think how long have I got left on this Earth, and do I want to keep getting up at 3.30 in the morning,” he said. “At social events I’m always the first out the door. I don’t want to be the first out the door anymore.” He has broken myriad stories. Most recently he read private text messages from senior state Liberal Alister Henskens on air, which criticised the NSW party leadership after its failure to lodge its local government candidates before deadline.
