Raymond S. Uno, the first minority judge in Utah history, has died at age 93.
Sun, March 10th 2024 at 5:04 PMSALT LAKE CITY —Before becoming a judge in Utah's 3rd District Court, Uno served as a Deputy Salt Lake County Attorney, Assistant Utah Attorney General and practiced in a private law firm."Judge Uno was larger than life. His smile filled a room," Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes wrote following Uno's passing. "While he was soft-spoken, caring and humble, he had a gravitas born of forceful conviction and indomitable will.
"Judge Uno was a scholar and soldier, an athlete and activist, a gentleman and jurist, and a champion of civil rights and civility," Reyes shared. "He was a pioneer who opened doors for so many of us. He was our hero."
