Treasurer Jim Chalmers has welcomed the resignation of two Reserve Bank board members, saying it will give the board an"opportunity to refresh".

"[Mr Barnaba and Ms Craik] have indicated they are prepared to not be considered for further reappointment and I think that’s a good thing for the Reserve Bank board, it does give us an opportunity for that element of renewal." The Reserve Bank's Governor, Philip Lowe, has also come under scrutiny following the bank's decision to lift the cash rate for a ninth consecutive time despiteMr Chalmers signalled that a decision on Governor Lowe’s future would be announced in the middle of the year, and would depend on the direction the government wants for the bank going forward.
