Some voters would rather bring their own pen
After arriving, you are handed your ballot paper and take your place in a voting booth, where you can make your choice in secret. The polling station provides a pencil for you to put a cross into the box for the candidate of your choosing.

It is down to ensuring the ballot isn't rejected, but using a pencil is not mandatory.
The commission said: "Pencils are generally used to mark ballot papers for practical reasons: ink may dry or spill, or could smudge and transfer when the ballot paper is folded, which could lead to your ballot paper being rejected.The Liverpool Daily Post newsletter delves into the biggest stories on Merseyside
