Early voting for the May 28 Democratic primary runoff for Bexar County Commissioners Court Precinct 1 ends Friday.

County Commissioner Rebeca Clay-Flores has spent more than $220,000 to defend her seat in next week’s runoff election. She has outspent challenger Amanda Gonzalez seven to one, according to campaign finance reports filed this week. The first-term commissioner came up short in her bid for the Democratic nomination in the crowded March 5 primary, earning 46% of the vote to Gonzalez ’s 20%.

Clay-Flores gets backing of 1 primary challenger. Her runoff opponents gets 3. Clay-Flores raised about $63,000 from Feb. 25 through May 18, according to her campaign finance report. She received almost $1,700 in an in-kind, or non-cash donation, from the Texas Organizing Project. Better SA political action committee, which emerged ahead of the city’s May 2023 election, has endorsed Clay-Flores in the runoff.

Commissioner Clay-Flores in strong runoff position, but low turnout could open door for Amanda Gonzalez Clay-Flores was sitting on more than $346,000 at the end of the reporting period, while Gonzalez had just under $10,000 in her campaign bank account. Early voting for Tuesday’s runoff ends Friday. Election day polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The winner will face Republican Lina Prado in the November’s general election.
