Record-breaking temperatures are expected Thursday across the borderland and scorching weather could present many dangers.
With the next several days expected to shatter record-highs, the sweltering temperatures can lead to serious dangers and people should be aware of symptoms and warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Genrich said signs of heat-related health issues that could lead to heat stroke include increased heart rate and breathing rate, cramping, feeling fatigued and dizzy.
Genrich said, “Those infants are going to get hot, really quickly. They're not going to be able to supplement like an adult would and they also have a much higher metabolic rate. And the elderly also have some chronic conditions, heart-related conditions, heart failure, maybe they've had a heart-attack.”Another doctor said a specific group of elderly are even more at risk during extreme hot temperatures because of medications they may be taking or health conditions they may have.
