On Saturday, the Overcomer's Running Club will take part in the Cap City Quarter Marathon and 5k. The running club is part of the"Running parallels a lot with their recovery," running coach and CDCA Marc Thomas said. "Sometimes they are tired, sometimes they hit a wall, sometimes they want to stop, gather themselves and sometimes they realize they can actually go further than they realize.
Both Christian and Duffy said being a part of the Overcomer's Running Club is helping them make it back onto a pathway of freedom. "Those statistics are staggering," Thomas said. "Even hearing the client's personal stories of how many times they have overdosed or had to use Narcan or flatlined and came back -- those stories make what we do even more important."
