Martin Higgins is running 1000 miles from Land's End to John O'Groats in support of glaucoma research
Residents in parts of South Lanarkshire were treated to a Red Arrows flypast – as the top pilots gave their backing a former colleague running through the area on an epic 1000-mile fundraising challenge.
The free download features the latest breaking news and exclusive stories, and allows you to customise your page to the sections that matter most to you.Martin set off on the five-week run on June 1 and told on his fundraising page how he had received a “bagpiper welcome to Scotland” before witnessing the South Lanarkshire flypast with a group of friends and supporters.
He has been training for more than 18 months for his “extraordinary” 1000-mile run, which includes 70,000ft of elevation and will see him complete the West Highland Way on his route – and said: “It has been a journey of long mileage, strength training, and learning how to eat and drink on the go.”
