Red Bull’s plans to bring American IndyCar driver Colton Herta to Formula 1 could be blocked by the sport’s governing body, talkSPORT understands.that Herta is Red Bull’s one and only target to join their stable of drivers for the 2023 season, heading to sister team Alpha Tauri.AFP
F1 has been keen to add a US driver to the grid for the first time since 2016, with the sport gaining massive popularity in AmericaThe Circuit of the Americas hosted the most attended F1 race in history with 400,000 spectators in 2021, while the sport’s US television audience has increased by 40 per cent since the 2020 season.
Despite the potential roadblock, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and advisor Helmut Marko discussed Herta at the race in Zandvoort.. “That’s comparable to grand prix races. So, it would be a shame if he wouldn’t get the superlicence.”
