Reds infielder Noelvi Marte was given an 80-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Boldenone, a performance enhancing substance.

CINCINNATI - Cincinnati Reds infielder Noelvi Marte was given an 80-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Boldenone, a performance enhancing substance, the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced on Friday. The substance is in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
The suspension of Marte will become effective at the beginning of the 2024 regular season. He will also be ineligible for postseason games should the Reds qualify. The Reds in a press release said, "The Reds fully support Major League Baseball’s drug policy and its penalties. We will have no further comment.”In 35 games for the Reds last season Marte had 122 plate appearances and finished with a slash line of .316/.366/.456 with three homers and 15 RBI. He made 26 starts at third base and three starts at shortstop and was projected to be the Reds starting third baseman this season.
