The money will go towards supporting existing services
The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has received an extra £3.1m to fund bus services across Merseyside.
This means that the Liverpool City Region has so far received more than £6.2m to fund bus services with £12.3m expected by 2025. The government money is intended to be used to introduce new services or enhance existing ones at the weekends or evenings. It can also be used to protect bus services that have low passenger numbers but serve isolated places within the city region.
The funding follows the closure of a major consultation that saw thousands of people have their say over how buses are run across the city region. Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram has strongly supported bringing buses back under public control. A total of 6,201 people responded to the survey about how they want buses to be run in the future and the Liverpool City Region is currently analysing the responses.
