The number of Australians getting married has declined after post-pandemic highs in all but two states which have seen a continued surge in couples tying the knot.
All but two Australian states have recorded a decline in the number of registered marriages compared to post-pandemic highs according to new figures which also reveal the most popular wedding day.
Australia's most populous state had 39,018 registered marriages last year, a decline of 13.2 per cent on 2023's 44,953, and down on 2019's figure of 39,597. Queensland's 2023 figure came in at 23,826 compared to 25,014 the year prior and in the Northern Territory there were 794 marriages versus 819 weddings in 2022.
The median wedding age increased to 32.9 years for males from 32.5, and to 31.2 years for females from 30.9.
