"Brain shrinkage or 'atrophy' can occur in specific health conditions, such as excessive alcohol use, stroke, Alzheimer's. It can also occur as part of normal ageing, but any changes can be quite subtle," he told ABC News. "In children, naps have been shown to improve new learning, although this depends on the age of the child."
