The 27-year-old looked stunning in her own white gown, also by Sarah Burton, and was unaware that her enviable figure was already making international headlines. She was concentrating on marshalling the young bridesmaids and pages.
Then, in a bid to calm all their nerves, he leaned towards Michael and quipped, “We’re supposed to have just a small family affair!” And suddenly, the silence was broken by a roar, sweeping in from the crowd that had been listening on speakers outside. The 1902 State Landau, built for King Edward VII’s coronation, and four white horses were waiting to take them to Buckingham Palace.He helped her into the carriage and two footmen took their places. Fortunately for worried little Grace, it was over in seconds – and caring Kate, who had noticed her distress, gently coaxed the youngster into a smile.
