Letters which helped drive one of Australia's strictest gun reforms, penned by a father who lost his wife and two young daughters in the Port Arthur massacre, will be displayed for the first time.

Walter Mikac's wife Nanette and daughters Alannah and Madeline were among 35 people killed in the mass shooting on April 28, 1996, in the historic Tasmanian tourist town.
