Remembering Dr Martin Luther King by LeahMahon_

The collaboration would galvanise the Selma to Montgomery marches for voting rights, the March on Washington in 1968 where King would make his most famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

On 4th April 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee, Dr King would walk out onto the balcony of his motel alongside Rev. Jesse Jackson as he was shot in the face. Dr King was rushed to hospital and pronounced dead later that evening. Writing on social media, Dr King’s oldest son – Dr Martin Luther King III – spoke about his father’s last few days alive, saying: “55 years ago today, Dad told a crowd in Memphis that he had been to the mountaintop. He said that day that ‘I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough can you see the stars.’ I often meditate on those words, especially when I’m having trouble seeing those stars.”He continued: “Today, I remember your grace, your kindness, and your heart.

He described his father as “courageous in the face of brutality, uniting in the face of divisiveness, and tremendously kind in the face of hate,” adding that he prayed his tremendous legacy would inspire millions to build a beloved community.
