Renaming POGOs won't cover up the problems they spawn
THE mounting evidence of illegal activity that has turned up in raids on Philippine offshore gaming operator sites makes it more difficult to rationalize why they haven't been booted out of the country.The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission last week said it had completed its search of a sprawling POGO compound in Porac, Pampanga.It took almost two weeks for PAOCC to rummage through the 46 buildings inside Lucky South 99's compound.
In Metro Manila, there are POGO hubs that are near military installations, including the headquarters of the armed forces in Camp Aguinaldo, the Philippine National Police in Quezon City, the Philippine Air Force in Pasay City, the Philippine Army in Taguig City, and the Philippine Navy in Manila, the officials said.Despite the mounting evidence of POGOs' nefarious activities, they have fended off calls to run them out of the country. Their biggest defender has always been Pagcor.
