Glasgow renters have seen a 7.7 per cent increase in the past year alone.
Private renters in Glasgow are paying almost 50 per cent more than they were in 2010, according to new research from the Scottish Government.
Across Scotland, the average increase in the past year sat at 7.6 per cent. When it came to average monthly rent, the Lothian area currently has the highest average rent for two bedroom properties sitting at £1,006.Glasgow’s average two bedroom rent sits at £858, making it the second highest rental area in Scotland.
The study used two bedroom properties as they are the most common type in the private rented sector, with around half of all private rented homes estimated to be this size. Research revealed that Greater Glasgow rents have been higher than the Scottish average since 2014, with the gap gradually increasing over the past eight years.
