Officers in Renton arrested two juveniles - ages 14 and 16 - accused of pulling a gun on two children as they were walking down the street.
Video from the Guardian One helicopter shows juvenile suspects being arrested near the Southcenter Mall in Tukwila after a report of threats with a gun in Renton.
Police said the teens were involved in a crime spree that began around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday when they stole a car, drove it erratically, stole packages, and then pointed a gun at the eight and 10-year-old victims who were on a sidewalk. Renton police were helped by the sheriff's helicopter, Guardian One, which located the suspects in the stolen Hyundai. The helicopter tracked the Hyundai as it blew through red lights and at one point, nearly hit a pedestrian.
The teens eventually drove underneath an awning at the Southcenter Mall in Tukwila, where all four of them jumped out and ran.Police and mall security located two of the teens, who were arrested and later released to their families. Two other teens got away, and police are working to apprehend them."It is absolutely unacceptable," Schuldt told KOMO News on Wednesday. “I think we have a responsibility to say something to our community and let them know. This isn’t an issue.
King County officials received an update on the plan to close the youth detention center, which has been delayed to 2028.A law without consequences is just a suggestion, and I think that’s what they’re taking it as. They’re brazen enough that they’re not worried about consequences or repercussions," Schuldt said. "We’re not going to arrest our way out of this at this point, we need everyone coming together to find a solution. We need to come together as a community to find solutions.
