The final decision over the plans will be made by ministers after it was 'called in' during August.

A professional report commissioned by the National Trust for Scotland has described plans for a horse-trotting track on the site of the historic Bannockburn battlefield and Stirling Council ’s assessment of it as “fundamentally flawed.”

In their notification, ministers said their decision would be “final”, adding: “The Scottish ministers have given this direction in view of the proposed development’s potential impact on the Bannockburn Rotunda and designated battlefield of national significance.” Stuart Brooks, the National Trust for Scotland’s Director of Conservation & Policy said: “The report supports our contention that this is the wrong application in the wrong place with the wrong decision by Stirling Council.

In his own submission, Alexander Smith said eight meetings a year had been held at nearby Haugh Field since Corbiewood Stadium closed in 2022 but the grass track was unsuitable for more regular meetings and there was no guarantee of long term use since ownership of the field changed hands.
