'An elderly man involuntarily performed around 75m-worth of backwards tumbling roly polys'

Rescue teams were scrambled to a Lake District hillside after a pensioner plunged 75m from a path yesterday .

According to rescuers, he had performed "around 75m-worth of backwards tumbling roly polys". The team assessed his condition and transported him down the hillside to safety.Initially, mountain rescue workers had alerted a Coastguard to assist with the rescue. But this was stood down when it became apparent the "stoic" walker's injuries were not as bad as initially feared.

"The man’s companions and two passing walkers who had raised the alarm looked after the gentleman until the team arrived. A medical assessment showed fortunately the very stoic casualty to be less badly injured than first feared. The Coast Guard were then stood down, many thanks to R936 and GNAAS for responding.
