BREAKING: A councillor in the area has said the incident is related to a 'firearms discharge
A huge police cordon is in place on an estate in north Manchester today, with forensic officers and Tactical Aid Unit officers at the scene.
A stretch of Topley Street on the Irk Valley estate in the Collyhurst area of Manchester is currently taped off. The cordon is in place near the junction with Rochdale Road.A councillor for the area said there's 'shock' on the estate over what he called a suspected 'firearms discharge' - and claimed people have been told to stay in their homes as a result.is still attempting to get clarification from Greater Manchester Police.
In a tweet, coun Pat Karney, who represents the area, said: "We are shocked that a possible firearms discharge has occurred connected to trouble on the estate. "I grew up on this estate and I am keeping in touch with local residents who have been told to stay in their houses. We are also in full communication with GMP."Today, crime scene investigators are on the scene.Pictures also show Tactical Aid Unit officers sweeping the area for evidence.
