Plans for 100 new homes in Wilpshire have been tabled

Plans for almost 100 new Ribble Valley homes at Wilpshire, which have sparked over 100 objections, will be considered by councillors this week, along with an application for new commercial buildings on farmland at Barrow, near the A59 and Clitheroe.

Regarding the Wilpshire application, house builder Persimmon Homes has submitted a plan for 99 new homes and landscaping work on land east of Salesbury View. Persimmon is suggesting 30 per cent of homes would be affordable with some designed for the over-55s. The others would include different sized homes at commercial market prices including three, four and five-bedroom houses, smaller two-bedroom homes and also homes for the over-55s.

However, one letter of support has come from a person saying the new development would allow them to move closer to their family in the Ribble Valley. Councillors are being advised to refuse the Persimmon application. Planning officers say it would have an unacceptable impact on the site, which is a hillside location. Officers also say the house designs would be too cramped inside, giving a ‘poor standard’ of living accommodation.

But Clitheroe Chamber of Trade has called for a legal covenant to be attached, to stop any retail activities at the new site. This would protect employment uses of valuable land, the chamber believes. Currently, a McDonald’s restaurant, a Co-op service station and other office, retail and industrial businesses are located at the Ribble Valley and Barrow Brook business parks. Pendle View Holiday Park is on the other side of the A59 near the existing roundabout.
