The fire, which took place past 9 p.m., reached the first alarm. A candle that was left burning was blamed for the incident. "Kasi nagsindi 'yung amo ko ng kandila po, tapos iniwan niya. Siguro bumagsak 'yung kandila [My boss lit a candle and left it burning. Perhaps the candle fell over]," said Andrew, who works for the victim.The victim's wife, meanwhile, was safely brought out of the burning house.
Fire Senior Superintendent Aristotle Bañaga of Bureau of Fire Protection in Quezon City identified the victim as retired General George Ancheta."Charred na po siya beyond recognition [The victim is charred beyond recognition]," said Bañaga of the victim.
