Businessman John Keogh is sleeping rough to see whether his 'Ootsider' coat - which he has been providing to rough sleepers for free - keeps him warm on the streets

A retired grandad who has been sleeping on the streets to see whether his Ootsider coat keeps rough sleepers warm at night is bracing the streets of Glasgow tonight.

Handmade in Scotland, the jacket is waterproof, windproof and has fleece lining - and is something John hopes will replace sleeping bags. It also comes with a waterproof bag.The retired engineering manager, who lives in West Lothian, started sleeping rough on December 1. But six days into the challenge, he fell ill and was forced to stop.John admits not everyone has that luxury of having somewhere else to go.

“But I can see how it maybe drives people to feeling like that. We need to remember that all of us are about three pay checks away from being on the street. “I hand the jackets out myself and they know that there’s somebody there to talk to them because there’s so many folk just walking past and giving them abuse.”
