Australians working full-time are now being paid more than $1,900 a week on average - or about $100,000 a year - despite wage growth slowing across the nation.
New figures have revealed just how much the average Australian working full-time is earning each week, and the industries which pay the most.
"Average weekly earnings growth over the six months to May 2024 was 1.8 per cent, around two thirds of the 2.8 per cent growth we saw over the six months to November 2023," ABS head of labour statistics Kate Lamb said. "This was slightly higher than the 4.5 per cent or $81 in the year to November 2023. This growth was underpinned by rises in both the private and public sectors, which both grew by 4.6 per cent annually."
At the other end of the scale, the lowest paid industry was accommodation and food services, with average weekly earnings of $1,421. Retail trade was second last at $1,454. "The gender pay gap for all employees, including both full-time and part-time employees, is much larger than the full-time measure, with women more likely to work part-time.
