A review of the redesigned 2023 Honda Accord, evaluating its performance in the 2024 Car of the Year testing. While the previous Accord was highly praised, the new model fails to make significant advances.
This review was conducted as part of our 2024 Car of the Year (COTY) testing, where each vehicle is evaluated on our six key criteria: efficiency, design, safety, engineering excellence, value, and performance of intended function. Eligible vehicles must be all-new or significantly revised. When is good not good enough? Honda has a reputation for excellence in most segments, but we've found many of its latest efforts—the outstanding Civic excluded—don't quite reach that bar.
The new, redesigned for 2023, is one such example. We loved the previous Accord's handsome styling, impeccable driving dynamics, and strong powertrains. While the new model doesn't take any huge steps backward, it also fails to make many advances or exhibit much of the old car's intangible magic. We had an Accord EX and a range-topping Touring Hybrid on hand for 2024 Car of the Year evaluation. Honda has collapsed gasoline and hybrid models into a single trim walk, with the gas-only models—which are the best to drive—at the bottom, meaning buyers in search of a nicer Accord must spring for a pricier hybrid
