I’ve spent the past few weeks putting an EVERBOOM through its paces and can say that Ultimate Ears has yet another winning speaker in its lineup. Ultimate Ears speakers have a well-deserved reputation for being rugged, water resistant and perfectly suited to outdoor activities including camping and going to the beach.
If you want to fine-tune the sound, you can do so using the BOOM mobile app, where you’ll find presets plus a custom EQ. In addition, the app allows you to pair two supported BOOM series speakers using the PartyUp feature. Those who want to be heard above the din can take advantage of a new capability: Megaphone lets you broadcast your voice, turning the EVERBOOM into a mobile PA system.
Then there is the price, which is surprisingly close. The EVERBOOM retails for $249.99 while the larger EPICBOOM now has a $299.99 price tag. So for $50 more, you are getting considerably more speaker with the EPICBOOM. However, if portability is important, the EVERBOOM wins hands down–without giving up much in the way of sound.Those looking for a very portable wireless speaker with long battery life, a rugged, waterproof build and energetic sound will find theto be a very compelling choice.
