Governor Dan McKee announces the phased return of the HealthyRhode customer portal, a key service compromised in the December RIBridges data breach. Users will receive emails with instructions to securely access the portal. State officials urge residents to take steps to protect their financial information.
Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee announced a plan Thursday to relaunch the HealthyRhode customer portal, a key service affected by the major data breach of the RIBridges system in December. The phased relaunch will begin Friday, with users who access health coverage through Medicaid, HealthSource RI, SNAP benefits, and other programs receiving emails from [email protected].
The RIBridges system, which manages various social service programs and health insurance enrollment, was taken offline after state officials were notified by Deloitte, their vendor, about a significant security threat. The breach potentially exposed the personal data of individuals involved in Medicaid, SNAP, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Childcare Assistance Program, Rhode Island Works, Long-term Services and Supports, and health insurance purchased through HealthSource RI. While there have been reports of hackers releasing data onto the dark web, state officials have not yet received any confirmed instances of individuals losing money due to the breach.Despite the data compromise, officials emphasize that it does not automatically mean identity theft has occurred. However, they strongly urge residents who may have been affected to take immediate steps to protect their financial information. For detailed guidance on safeguarding against potential identity theft, residents can visit cyberalert.ri.gov. A dedicated call center is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 833-918-6603
